Hans-Joachim Bohlmann was a tragic man and notorious art vandal. I was deeply moved by his life story and his struggles with mental illness (and the barbaric treatments through which he suffered). I find it unfortunate that he is infamous only for his vandalism, which was merely a symptom of his deep emotional distress. Through this portrait, I give a true likeness along with a hint at his tragedy (reflected in his blue shadows).
