Patrycja Walton is a Montreal based artist, born in Ontario’s Scottish / Irish farm country. Her work includes sculpture, painting and mixed media. In 1976, she completed a diploma in Craft and Design, studying under Katharine Ylitalo and Richard Gill. In 1979, she received a Visual Arts diploma with a major in Textiles, at Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary, Alberta), studying under Katharine Dickerson, Jane Kidd, Wendy Toogood, and Alexandra Haeseker . In 1981, Walton worked as Animateur of Arts and Culture in northern Saskatchewan for the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils. In 1983 she attended Emma Lake Art School studying under Ann Newdigate Mills.

Walton received numerous accolades for her fibre works; the Prince Albert Winter Festival Prix d’excéllence in 1983; a provincial tour of her work hosted by the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils in 1984; and a Saskatchewan Arts Board travel grant in 1985. In 1987 Walton studied under artists George Glenn, David Alexander, and Greg Curnoe at the Saskatchewan Summer School of the Arts. In 1988, she received a Saskatchewan Arts Board Research and Creation grant, exhibiting the completed project at the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery in Saskatoon.

Walton studied at the L’Institut Simone de Beauvoir, Concordia University and Centre des Arts Visuels in Montreal. In 2002, she studied abstraction under the tutelage of Montreal artist Marie-Claude Bouthillier, and in 2007 Walton attended l’École d’été Internationale de Percé (University of Laval), under the tutelage of Alexandre David. In 2014 -16, Walton was represented by Galerie Nuedge in Montreal.

In 2017, Walton was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts Creative development grant. In 2017, Walton was represented by Galerie Deux Poissons, Montreal and in 2018, three glass sculptures were incorporated into décor for performances at Les Grand Ballet Canadiens. These three sculptures are permanently installed as public art in the building of Les Grand Ballet Canadiens in Montreal.

Walton has exhibited widely and works can be found in both private and public collections in Canada, USA, France and Switzerland. Walton lives and works in Montreal.

Growing up on a Rideau River farm in the Ottawa Valley region, I am an artist with a multidisciplinary approach to my work. My practice bears both suggestions of, my background in the feminine tradition of craft and a formative training in the textile arts, as well as, the rural landscape, and tangled wilderness of Canadian and Quebecois forests, and the haunting memories of the black spruce skylines and lily pad laden lakes of northern Saskatchewan. Part of my work centers around the contemporary and historical female perspectives on image, identity, wardrobe and domestic ancestral rituals. It also reflects 22 years spent in a studio that was a former textile mill, manufacturing women’s haut-couture clothing.

Also challenged with a visual dis-eye-bility, there is a perpetual thread running through the work, relating to my optical vision.
