This piece is a visual representation of the loss of passion for music. There is a translated lyric in the song Black Swan by BTS that says “If this can no longer hold, my heart will stop beating. Then this may be how I die my first death.” What they are saying is that when they no longer have a hold on their passion to perfect their art, they will die their first death; the one before their physical death and the most painful one. The skeleton of the piano in this piece symbolizes this death. I chose to use a piano to represent an artist’s passion for music because the piano is the most foundational instrument that most musicians start learning on. This is where the passion for music starts, and this is where it would end. The skeleton itself is made up of human bones which gives the implication that the piano was once alive and ties the piano to human characteristics. When an artist loses the rawness in their music and their art becomes tainted by fame and the industry, they can choose to continue creating, or stop when they can’t produce with raw passion anymore. This piano is full of flowers to symbolize an artist who continues to create even though their passion is dead, and while their music may sound pretty and fits the mould of pop culture, there is no depth to it. The flowers are still pleasing to the eye however, but when looking at the big picture, the piano itself is still mostly hollow.
