Biography

Marlene Roy has been painting for over 35 years and lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has participated in several group shows and has paintings in private collections in Canada and the United States.

Artistic approach

I paint my response to natural forms and landscape — their energy and interplay of light and colours. Each painting explores rhythms, shapes and patterns through mark-making, texturing and paint. I often scrape and gouge the painting as I build it through successive layers each reflecting my feelings at the moment. My mark making is interwoven with the music I’m listening to when painting.
