Description
The Simple Life was created during a period of self-discovery and life changing decisions. I was getting so tired of this artificial landscape we inhabit. I was born in one of the top industrial-business cities of Mexico, Monterrey. Opportunities come to those with good connections and social status. It's an exhausting life, in all its' senses.
On New Years 2017, I made the promise to myself that I was going to search for a more simple life - and so I did. During 2018 I traveled more than I had ever in my entire life. I wanted to experiment the most I could, while looking for any sign of the universe that could guide me into the life I was searching for. My willingness was so strong that I managed to finish my Architecture thesis and graduated Summa Cum Laude with the highest honors, while I was away more than half of the year.
During that year I had a horrible experience participating in an art contest taking place in London, UK. I was announced as a finalist and two weeks later they "changed their mind" and the objective of the exposition, leaving me out of it. With my ticket in hand and feeling a huge disappointment, anger, and all the feelings you can imagine, I called the airline to try to make the best I could out of the ticket I had already paid for.
I ended up exchanging my ticket for a 10 day vacation in Quebec, Canada- my first snow trip.
There was something about the city of Montreal that caught my soul. I fell in love so much with the people, their culture, that I made the decision to live during the summer there. And so I packed my car, alongside my best friend and my dog, and we drove all the way from Monterrey, Mexico to Montreal, Canada.
By that time, The Simple Life had become a bestseller in The Cool Hunter, and had brought me international clients and recognition, which was funding my artist career and life dream.
During the summer, I met my now husband, and this brought the decision of me staying in Canada.
It was until my first camping expedition, being in the middle of the lake on my paddle board, above the brightest starry sky I’ve ever seen, that I realized: I have found my simple life.
People interpret this artwork in many different ways, most commonly with technology and how it is taking us away from nature. But this artwork represents my life's willingness to search for my soul’s desires. I am that astronaut, in the middle of a field, standing in awe, looking at what is now I call home.
In 2018 I created this artwork without knowing I was creating a life path.
