Idalina is an award winning producer and director with over 10 years of experience in film and television. She has produced, directed and written several films, documentaries, music videos and television programs in North America and across Europe.

A Meisner trained actor and accomplished photographer, Idalina turned to visual arts during the Covid lockdown in spring 2020. After not being able to create in her usual settings, she started exhibiting her photographs at a local coffee shop gallery.

Because the establishment was closed due to Covid, she created a window exhibit of her work. Photos were projected on the wall on a vintage slide projector by the window for people in the community to have something to look at during the lockdown. The need for more content for the projector inspired a whole new art form for her by using photo gels and plastics to create shapes and forms in the slide mounts. This is where her passion for slide art was born.

I started doing slide art during the Covid lockdown in Toronto. I loved the way projections and the use of gels and plastics let me explore shapes, depth and colours through the lens of analog technology and I adored seeing the grandness of the images on the wall.

My art was a way to make the community feel connected through art during a time of isolation and my inspiration came from the feelings of being trapped and confined at home. It was a meditative process and most of the images I do not remember making most of my slides as I let my feelings guide me.

I have fallen in love with this process and my passion for slide art as a way to express my emotions is something that will continue for a very long time.
