Biography

Émilie Coquil est une céramiste française vivant à Montréal qui utilise des techniques d'impressions expérimentales sur la porcelaine à partir de ses photographies. Elle a obtenu une maîtrise à l'école Supérieure des Arts et Industries Graphiques de Paris et un master en communication visuelle à Birmingham en 2005 (Royaume-Uni), puis elle déménage au Canada où elle étudie la psychologie et la céramique.

Artistic approach

I use lithography on raw clay. It gives me the freedom for manual interventions at the printing stage. The porcelain is glazed and high fired twice, which forever merges the image with a layer of glass. In contrast, my favorite subject, called Ukiyo in the Buddhist tradition, is the evanescent, changing and ephemeral aspect of life.
