Biography

Born in Tehran, Iran, Mohadese Movahed is a visual artist whose studio practice focuses on painting, drawing and intaglio printmaking. She graduated with a BFA degree from the University of Science and Culture in Tehran and an MFA from the University of Regina, Treaty Four Territory, in 2019. Movahed has exhibited her work nationally and internationally and currently lives and works in Vancouver, Canada.

Artistic approach

My studio practice addresses the psychology of power and the psychosocial toll of a society under political oppression. Through the use of diverse figurative and landscape elements, I bring my life experience to my works to convey narratives of the human condition in the face of a society burdened by limiting traditions and beliefs while exploring my own cultural identity.
