Impassioned by the arts since childhood, Lisabel is making her mark on the international arts scene with artwork on display in over forty exhibitions worldwide. She has garnered a succession of global honors and awards, with her abstract and semi-figurative paintings featured in over 1,500 collections around the globe. 

 

Lisabel Filiatrault (LISABEL) was born in 1968 in Montreal, Canada, where she began to hone her craft from a young age. In 1990, working in the commercial composite materials industry, she developed a new artistic technique using polymers, which, to this day, has not been replicated.Fusing art and technology, this approach renders her work both unique and unparalleled. 

 

Starting in 2007, LISABEL embarked on her journey into the art world full-time. Together with renowned businessman Glenn Miller, Lisabel’s partner in life and in business, they launched Galerie LISABEL, disrupting the art industry with innovative business models that craft sensory experiences. 

 

With the world as her canvas, LISABEL pairs paint and architectural landscapes to evoke intimate surroundings. She states, “My purpose in life is to create meaningful pieces of art that elevate people to feel exceptional emotions, freedom and peace. Let it spark something in them; something they will remember forever.”

 

LISABEL has joined forces with select luxury brands to partner on exclusive collaborations that transcend the traditional canvas, offering art Beyond the Walls.Examples include the Lamborghini “Dream Catcher”, launched at the Canadian International AutoShow in collaboration with Lamborghini Canada; flagship InterContinental Hotels that feature dedicated LISABEL Suites and artwork prominently displayed in the lobbies and entertainment spaces; a signature blend of composite materials applied directly onto a Baby Grand Piano in collaboration with Piano Bolduc and Steinway; and Artist-in-Residence for aerospace giant Bombardier since 2010.

 LISABEL is like a great feathered creature looking for freedom, and that’s exactly what comes out of her artistic approach. 

 Evolution 

 As an artistic painter, she is in perpetual mutation. She initially paints figurative art – acrylic and brushes on canvas. Just like a camera, her eye captures images, light, and dimensions; she instinctively reproduces every detail it memorizes. As a young adult, when she would see a painting that she liked, she would keep this image in mind and, as soon as she got home, she would repeat it on canvas within two hours.  

Her artistic expression comes to a turning point when she studies composite materials and their applications in the industrial industry where she worked for 20 years. Like a martial arts master, she has a perfect command of her technique, which enables her to give assured brushstrokes, without any unnecessary moves. 

 LISABEL invented a unique technique which, to this day, has not been used by any other painters. The challenge of working with polymers, the immense amount of knowledge required, the complexity of the setup, and the high cost of materials explain it all.  

Moment of Grace 

Her passion for painting captivating her at all times, Lisabel notes on any medium at hand, an idea, a sketch, colours or even dimensions for paintings she imagines. From time to time, she goes to her studio with no particular idea in mind. 

She puts on her overall and her protective mask, chooses the right colours, catalysts and spatulas to start with the background of the painting. At this stage, the artist explains:  “I feel like my body is undertaken, and that an internal force is guiding my hand; I sing and I enjoy every minute of it. I forget the passing time, I forget everything. Once the painting is done, I come back to earth and admire my creation, filled with joy. When I come out of this state of creative trance, I feel greatly satisfied of having brought forth a new piece”. 

Understanding of Art and Artistic Evolution 

LISABEL affirms that artists help developing technology and bringing arts to an unprecedented level. With colours, she does the exact opposite of what she learnt and combines colours that, according to what is usually taught, don’t go together. This way, the observer reacts without realizing it. This is what distinguishes her work. She paints abstract or semi-figurative art. She will never come back to figurative painting. She is passionate and always wants to go faster, be better, and use new textures. She freely chooses the subjects, themes, colours, and dimensions of her canvas. Even so,  LISABEL’s paintings are recognizable among all. 

Life 

In each of her paintings, the characters, animals, or objects seem to be animated and bursting with pulsing energy. When tracing silhouette of images that thrill her, she virtually transmits her channeled energy to the painting. 

Affluence 

Ideas, themes, accomplishments, and projects never stop flowing in LISABEL’s mind. Over the last fifteen years, she has created more than 5,000 paintings. An inner urgency drives her to paint. She wants to be on every wall, everywhere on the planet in order to be part of people’s lives. 

 She generously gives to many foundations. While remaining humble, she is always sensitive to the enthusiasm of people watching her art; it gives her the motivation to carry on. She also likes to see the emotions of people who receive her paintings. At that very moment, she considers her creation process complete.
