Kateryna Kobylianska, born in the capital of Ukraine and currently based in Montreal, is recognized as a visual artist and cultural studies expert. She is known for the fusion of multiple layers and mixed media in her semi-abstract work, showcased in over 25 exhibitions in Barcelona, Kyiv, Dahab, Montreal and Zanzibar since 2018. 

 

Within her art, Kateryna Kobylianska delves deep into human consciousness, exploring the interplay between illusions and truths, inviting viewers to ponder their thoughts and emotions. Kateryna's exhibitions aim to create a sense of community, combatting isolation and providing a space for meaningful content. Her art perpetually explores boundaries and the metaphysical essence of light. In her recent series Kateryna explores prevalent separation between human culture and nature. The goal is to challenge this separation and depict the interconnectedness of humans and natural essence. 

 

Kateryna's artistic highlights include solo exhibitions like "The Drama of Elusive" and "Ambiguity" in Montreal, along with "Treachery of There and Then" in Barcelona. She participated in the 'Otherness' show at the Office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Montreal, Canada, and received personal written gratitude from the Prime Minister himself. She expanded her artistry through the Ukrainian-German residency NVAIR, presenting the compelling project "Reducing Paradoxes Weight" at the Modern Art Research Institute in Kyiv during the group exhibition "Waves of Reality."

I am a Ukrainian-Canadian visual artist based in Montreal. Intrigued by the separation between human culture and nature, a theme that has driven my recent work, I aim to depict the interconnectedness of humans and natural essence, reminding that humans are nature too, and exploring how exactly we are. I create semi-abstract art that delves into the contradictions of the human mind as described above. My artwork is characterized by multiple layers and incorporates mixed media. This is the method to reflect on conflicting experiences and how various ideas and symbols come together and interact. I draw inspiration from nature, cultural theories, and the intricacies of behavior and thoughts. With a portfolio featuring over 25 exhibitions in diverse locations, I've continuously pushed the boundaries of my professional artistic practice since 2018.  Rather than explaining "what it means," my artwork primarily reveals "what exists." My creative journey begins with the subconscious creation and decoding of symbols within. Imagery leads the way, followed by a linguistic concept. Each painting becomes a trip for me, where it guides me more than I guide it. This, I believe, is where the genuine truth unfolds. My painting reflects the viewer's experience. The boundaries of both my notion and the audience’s interpretation define the limits of our world. Could silence dissolve them? I choose abstract forms purposefully to convey the inexpressible. In my art, I explore the complexities of human consciousness, addressing the interplay between illusions and truths. It reminds me of the dance of light and shadow in nature. Illusions can be captivating like mirages, while truths provide unwavering constants. This balance is like gazing into a hall of mirrors, where self-reflection distorts, revealing both known and unknown facets. I invite viewers to question if we can truly distinguish illusion from truth or if they illuminate our multifaceted human perception. My exhibitions aim to create a sense of community, combating isolation and providing a space for meaningful content. My artistic influences include meeting with silence. Silence, for me, is not merely the absence of sound but a powerful presence in itself. My art is an eternal exploration of borders and the metaphysical light.
