Did you know that a coffee sleeve from Tim Hortons inspired my mixed media portrait collages.? I was working on a painting of J Cole (I had no idea who he was at the time) for my daughter while drinking Tim’s Earl Grey. At one point I took off the sleeve and wondered what I could do with the instant texture and colour field it provided. That was the light bulb moment which led me to searching in my neighbour’s blue bins for other discarded items that I could repurpose. Let’s just say that I don’t look at blue bins the same way people quickly throw things without a second thought.

I am a prolific, multi-disciplinary, self taught artist who specializes in mixed media portrait collage, large abstract painting and photography.

The sense of history and the passage of time is very evident in all of my work as I work with many layers. Often incising, scratching, gouging, pasting, embedding, and burning away top layers. It’s like being an archeologist removing layers to reveal the treasures hidden below.

I am intrigued by the concept of ‘One’, or Ik, that all things the we observe in the world are a part of the same thing, a part of one. The oneness that I seek to discover goes beyond the saying ‘we are all one’.
Instead my meditative process, using
intuition as the guide, seeks to reveal our relationship with that one thing, I attempt to reveal what is concealed, though it is right there and not in the periphery. The diversity of that ‘one’ thing, the different robes and dresses that it wears. It’s very important that my work be representative of .this diversity and at the same accessible for everyone.
