Originally painted for an exhibition in Australia entitled Women's Work, this piece aims to challenge stereotypes of what work that is. The model in this painting is an actual welder who conveys her passion for the field through her Instagram account. This picture was deliberately chosen to both highlight the stereotypical feminine attributes such as the pink sweater and long, blonde ponytail and to draw attention to the traditionally male activity of welding, as emphasised by the bright foreground colours and lighting versus the black background.
