During COVID 19 isolation, I began a series of paintings entitled Nature Squared. My idea was to bring to life abstract interpretations of the botanical world from memory. Rather than attempt to reproduce nature’s beauty in a realistic style, I painted based on the feelings and emotions that natural elements invoke in me. This piece is based on my glimpse of cherry blossoms from my second story window. The colours and textures swirl across the canvas announcing the energy and hope of spring. While there is still darkness, the light and hope break through as winter finally comes to an end. "Cherry Blossom" was juried into the 17th Annual Painting On the Edge Exhibition at the Federation of Canadian Artists gallery in Vancouver BC. This painting was also juried into the Disrupting the Stillness Exhibition co-curated by The Visionary Projects in NYC and the Lohme Art Gallery in Malmo, Sweden Nov/Dec 2020.
