This watercolour enchants me, just as Frank Bramley's painting enchanted me, of which this painting is a pastiche (imitation or evocation of the style). I love its atmosphere, both bucolic and sophisticated. At first glance, I would have sworn it was a painting by Claude Monet, but no, this young woman reading in the coolness of a peaceful garden is a work dated 1909 and produced by the post-impressionist British painter. I opted for a more open framing and my interpretation of the foliage lets in the light. One can feel that I enjoyed painting the lace, my little personal tribute to my grandmother who was a lace-maker in Calais. À première vue, j'aurais juré que c'était un Monet, mais non, cette jeune femme lisant dans la fraîcheur d'un paisible jardin est une oeuvre datée de 1909 et réalisée par le peintre post-impressionniste. J'ai opté pour un cadrage plus ouvert et mon interprétation du feuillage laisse entrer la lumière. On sent bien que j'ai pris plaisir à travailler la dentelle, mon petit homage personnel à ma grand-mère qui fut dentellière à Calais. Affichant un petit air suranné, de cette peinture émane enfin un sentiment de paix intérieure, de qualité du moment qui en fait l'image idéale pour une salle de lecture, ou une chambre à coucher.
